60 Second Ad Script:
Confederate Constitution
The
Constitution of the Confederate States of America was adopted on March 11,
1861.
In many ways,
it was visionary and improved the original U.S. Constitution.
Many of its
concepts are today being discussed in Congress. These include the line-item
veto and limiting the president to one six-year term. It also removed the
vague elastic clause which was already being used to grow the power of the
federal government way back in 1861.
It strengthened States' Rights, allowing states to impeach federal officials
within their states and incorporated the Bill of Rights directly into its main
body.
Finally, the
Confederate Constitution outlawed the international slave trade -- something
that the U.S. Constitution had never done.
This moment in history was brought to you by the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
