60 Second Ad Script:
Fort
Sumter
Early on the
morning of April 12th, 1861, the first shots were fired on Fort Sumter,
signalling the beginning of the War Between the States.
What is not so
well-known, however, is that the North was responsible. Instead of leaving
Charleston after South Carolina seceded, federal troops moved to the island
fortress of Fort Sumter, the first act of war between north and South.
The South even
offered a peace treaty to the U.S... but Lincoln refused. Instead, he sent a
fleet of ships to reinforce Fort Sumter -- the second act of war against the
South.
When General
Beauregard ordered the firing on Fort Sumter, it was the last resort.
So when you're
told the South started the war, now you'll know the rest of the story!
