60 Second Ad Script:
Lincoln's Call for Troops
One day
after the surrender of Fort Sumter, Abraham Lincoln called for 75,000 troops
to invade the South. The South had offered a peace treaty to prevent war,
but Lincoln had refused. By sending ships to reinforce the garrison, he
forced the South to fire upon Sumter .
Now Lincoln
had what he wanted... an excuse to invade the South.
At first,
many Northern states refused to send troops; but Lincoln assured them that it
would all be over in a few short weeks.
Lincoln's
call for troops to invade the South pushed the remaining Southern states to
secede. Four more states, including Virginia, now voted to join the
Confederacy; and Mr. Lincoln's War turned into four long years of death and
destruction on America.
The Republic
was dead and a new federal empire stood in its place with Lincoln on its
throne.
