60 Second Ad Script:
Northern Advantages
When Abraham
Lincoln declared war on the South in 1861, the Northern advantages were
overwhelming.
For years, the
South had paid the majority of taxes; and these taxes had been spent
on improvements in the North such as roads, railroads, and canals which aided
in moving troops and materials rapidly against the South.
In total
population, the North had 22 million people to only 9 million in the South;
and Northern factories, essential for producing war materials, outnumbered
those in the South by 10 to 1. The North produced 32 times more guns for the
Yankee army than the South could produce.
There is no
reason that the South should have survived for four long years of invasion by
the North. It was solely because of the courage and the belief in the Cause
of liberty that the South endured for so long.
