Battle of Second Manassas
A year after the first major Confederate victory in the War for Southern Independence, the two opposing armies again met on the same battlefield near Manassas Junction, Virginia.
In August of 1862, the bold, legendary general for the South, Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson captured the federal supply depot in Manassas. Union General Pope was convinced that he had found the perfect opportunity to capture Jackson's entire army. What he failed to realize was that another Confederate army was on the way. While Jackson and Pope were locked in a deadly struggle, 25 thousand Confederates under the command of General James Longstreet threw themselves into the flank of the Union army, crushing it and sending the survivors fleeing for their lives in total disarray.
Once again, the Confederate forces had outwitted and out-fought the enemy and won the day... this time at the Second Battle of Manassas.
